US version of Torchwood?

Ever since Doctor Who‘s resurrector supreme Russell T Davies announced he would be leaving the show at the end of last year, there was much speculation about what new TV deals he would get. It appears now that he is set to launch a US version of the Who ubergay sci-fi spinoff Torchwood.

Whenever people discuss US versions of shows that are popular in other countries, it is usually met with loud groans. And often justifiably so, just look at the cancelled-so-quick-you-probably-missed-it conversions of Life on Mars or Kath & Kim. But with RTD on the helm and by the looks of it a continuation of Captain Jack’s story where it left off at it’s angsty angsty worst (plus the possible addition of Russell Tovey as his new tea man/man puppet) and the possibility that Torchwood‘s most annoying yet most used character Gwen might be left out all together means this might be one US conversion, like The Office that doesn’t go down in flames.

I just hope that RTD leaves the angst and constant need for self-indulgence in England. As much as I loved the Tenth Doctor, his whiny “I’m so alone” schtick wore thin in the last few chapters of the Tenth’s life.
